All Saints’, Legbourne

Dedicated to All Saints
Dedicated to All the Saints — the whole company of God’s faithful people, remembered together rather than one name alone. It’s a fitting dedication for the church that gives the benefice its own emblem: the dove in All Saints’ stained glass is the image used across this website.
All Saints’ is a Grade I listed building dating from around 1380, built of distinctive grey and green sandstone under a copper roof. It sits at the heart of Legbourne village, close to the village shop just off the A157.
Inside are medieval stained glass windows, a recently refurbished organ and a restored 15th-century chancel screen with ornate tracery — as well as a ring of five bells. Visitors can follow a trail around the church in search of medieval graffiti carved into the stonework by hands centuries gone.
The extensive churchyard is well maintained, with areas set aside to support local wildlife. The image of a dove descending, taken from a stained glass window here, has become the emblem of all nine Legbourne Woldmarsh churches — a reminder, as our parishes describe it, that “it is only by working together that we can really take off.”
